MY NAME IS ASHER LEV
The journey of a young Jewish painter torn between his traditional upbringing and a desperate
need to fulfill his artistic promise, Aaron Posner’s stirring adaptation of a modern classic by
Chaim Potok presents a heartbreaking and triumphant vision of what it means to be an artist.
When his artistic genius threatens to destroy his relationship with his parents and community,
young Asher realizes he must make a difficult choice between art and faith.
AGNES OF GOD
In this drama by John Pielmeier, a court-appointed psychiatrist is summoned to a convent and
charged with assessing the sanity of a young novitiate accused of murdering her newborn. The
Mother Superior determinedly keeps young Agnes from the doctor, arousing her suspicions further.
Who killed the infant and who fathered the tiny victim? The questions force all three women to
re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.
THE SELFISH GIANT
Based on the 19th century children’s short story by widely celebrated Irish authour and playwright
Oscar Wilde, this premiere original work, told primarily through music and dance, captures the
transformative journey of a giant with a beautiful garden which he selfishly walls off to prevent
children from playing in it. As the garden changes with the four seasons, the giant, due to having
befriended a small child with a surprising identity, ends up changing as well.

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT (March 22-31, 2012)
Based on the novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky; Adaptation by Marilyn Campbell & Curt Columbus
Produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois
“…All great leaders of men are, without exception, criminals… Even men who are only a little out of the ordinary must be criminals by their very nature. Otherwise, they never rise above the masses, and they can’t stand being part of the masses.” – Crime and Punishment
“Raskolnikov’s journey may be, in essence, a 90-minute exercise in logic, but here it’s a remarkably absorbing one.” – New York Times
Based on the literary masterpiece by classic Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky, 9th Hour is pleased to present this new, award-winning adaptation, told as an intimate psychological and spiritual journey, revealing the potential of both ugliness and beauty within everyone. The story is largely set in the mind of the young and intelligent protagonist, Raskolnikov, where he relives and explores the thoughts, ideas, and feelings that drove him to his crime of murder; all the while Porfiry, a detective with impeccable intuition, and Sonia, a prostitute who still holds tightly onto her faith, urging him to confess his crime. The play becomes a psychological landscape which creates a thrilling journey into the mind of a killer and his search for redemption. Caught between his conscience and his arrogance, Raskolnikov must find the way out of his self-created prison and decide who he will become. Where is the line drawn between sinner and saint? Can a murderer also be a good person?
Due to mature subject matter, Crime and Punishment is not recommended for children.
Approximate running time of the production is 90 minutes.
